TS 55

We're in and we're out! George has been hauling ass. He switched to the P3 after the hilly start of the last section and he's flying. He looks great out there, he said he's moving on straight adrenaline. I'm so proud of him!!!!!! He's still in great spirits, our navigator is shouting one liners out the window to him as he speeds down the 40 toward Atlantic City and he's responding via nods and shaking his booty for us. :)

Keep the team in your thoughts...we're 60 miles away. 60 miles...it's just a club ride from here!!!

Sounds like he's tickling the pedals again. You Go, George Vargas!

I'm so stoked for this team.

How's Rick doing with the Achilles?

Last time that I saw Rick, his ankle and foot were incredibly swollen. They were going after medical supplies to wrap him up and I'm not sure yet whether or not he'll ride the final stretch on the boardwalk.

I'll be thinking positive thoughts of recovery for Rick.

I really can't tell you how impressed with this team I have been. You've ridden through 13 states, close to 3,000 miles, climbed 108,000 feet. Through all the cycling and support, and lack of sleep you've kept us all connected through your posts and emails.

I know that there was a fair share of RAAM Drama (both ups and downs) and you all pulled through to get it done.

Just one question at this point. . .which of you crazy people is signing up to do it again next year?

George has been telling me the whole time..."babe, I'm never doing solo" and "there's no way I'm doing this next year" but knowing him, the minute he crosses the finish line, he'll be ready to sign up. I have no doubt that he will go solo someday!

Keep it up George. The closer you get the bigger the lump in my throat. You all have dug deep and continue to amaze when the odds stacked against you. Your all winners in my book. No bring it home, its almost party time.

Great story about you all on RAAM's website! George, can you smell that New Jersey pizza yet? Despite our ups & downs, there is nothing that can take away from how proud of you I am right now. You have shown a determination that is second to none!!

Team Beat Cancer by www.coastalsportsmedicine.com

WOW!!!! Usually at this time of the race, all the human interest stories are about weathered, beaten solo riders who are fully entranced by their “zombie shuffle” as their desire and heart lift their legs and turn their cranks. This year RAAM has its fair share of that, but in addition we have another story just breaking. The 2 Man team of Team Beat Cancer by www.coastalsportsmedicine.com is rolling towards the Atlantic Ocean with only one rider left racing, George Vargas has been riding solo for the last 248 miles of the race when his team mate Rick Schulze became incapacitated due to an Achilles tendon problem that he has been forced to contend with for most of the race.

These two riders, their crew and crew chief Brandy Deluca have had a difficult race with 3 crew members either abandoning or asked to board the proverbial bus. Each rider has had injuries or illness to overcome. They started the race with a “wait and see” philosophy pertaining to split durations and have tried to match the length of splits to road and weather and rider conditions. Vying to become the last official 2 Person team finishers, they seem to have overcome all obstacles as George Vargas powers his TT bike with full force. Crew Chief, Brandy Deluca is in very high spirits and is extremely excited that her team and that these two outstanding road warriors are bringing their race home. Lets cheer them on!! Oh yeah, this is RAAM!
